Stephen Chow s'est fait connaître grâce à une émission de télévision pour enfants dans lequel il était animateur. Il a par la suite commencé à jouer dans des films, le premier étant Final Justice en 1988 pour lequel il obtient un prix. Il s'est peu à peu spécialisé dans les comédies avec son meilleur compagnon Ng Man-tat. Il se fait connaître en France grâce à ses deux films hilarants : Crazy Kung Fu et Shaolin Soccer.
